As Australia Day draws near some Australian academics have been putting forward views that perhaps the flying of flags on vehicles is less about national pride but more a sign of intolerance and close mindedness.

Does my ass look racist in this?

Regardless of whether or not this is the case, it is likely that the Australian flag will be flying from many a car on Australia Day and the interpretation of it’s significance will be left up to the individual to decide.

“Hey Bo, those Aussies sure are a weird patriotic bunch.”
“Tell me about it, Luke.”

About Ape No. 1

This famous lowland gorilla was born on July 4, 1971, in San Francisco. He was a gorilla who mastered over 2,000 words in American Blog Language, allowing him to communicate with humans in an astounding way. Some people felt that he was simply making blogs without understanding their real meanings, in order to receive treats and rewards from his readers.

Ha-ha! Great post! It reminded me of something that happened in Montreal which is in the Province of Quebec where there is some support for the province to separate from Canada and become its own country. On the province’s yearly holiday, one guy chose to drive around downtown sporting a Canadian flag. Some guys took offence at this and flipped his car in front of a couple of cops who did absolutely nothing saying that driving around in a car flying the Maple Leaf on La Fête Nationale was an act of provocation!

By the way, there’s a special Australia Day post on my block that I hope you’ll like.

Gotta love the good vibes you get from waving a flag around. I will make my way over to your blog and check out your Australia Day post just as soon as I finish attaching this giant Middle Earth flag to my car.
